I've been doing more presenting than writing recently. On Tuesday February 17, I presented an overview of the school district for the 2009 "Leadership Sun Prairie" class. This is a group of community members who spend a year studying various aspects of our community to improve their understanding and promote service and leadership. February was their month to study public education and they spent the day at Horizon, Prairie View, and the High School. I thought you might find the updated "School District Overview" I presented for them to be interesting information. It covers a wide variety of topics and quick information from enrollments to achievment to projections for growth.
February 17 was also the day when we presented to the School Board the first overview of the preliminary 2010-2011 district budget. You can see that information here: 2010-2011 Preliminary Budget Overview . The link will also take you to the list of questions the School Board asked us to respond to in the future; which gives some insight into what is on their minds as they consider these critical decisions. The School Board meets next on this topic on March 4 at 6 p.m. at the District Office. You are welcome to attend and watch the deliberations unfold. This is the start of the long process that leads ultimately to the adoption of the final budget by October 31 following the Annual Meeting on October 11, 2010.
If you'd like some context (or are a history buff) you can read about last year's budget development process , which unfortunately resulted in significant reductions this school year, in my blogs dated August 4, August 10, October 20, and November 19, 2009.
